Who do you think owns the crown of the world’s longest golf drive? The answer can be misleading when rea articles on different journals.
The unofficial owner of the world’s longest golf drive is Carl cooper who has made a drive that went 787 yards on the third hole, round two of the 1992 Texas open.
It was quite a fortunate drive for a lifetime. We will talk about that drive in the latter part of the article.
On the other hand, the official record for the world's longest golf drive belongs to Mike Austin. Mike Austin recorded the world's longest golf drive by taking the golf ball approximately 515 yards on the 5th hole of the 1974 National Seniors Open Championship.

What’s the dispute between Carl Cooper and Mike Austin?
Some claim Carl Cooper as the owner of the world's longest golf drive record, whereas the official record belongs to Mike Austin. Why is so?
In the 1992 Texas Open, Cooper hit down a drive on the third hole of round two. Fortunately, the ball landed on a concrete cart path that was angled downhill. As a result, the ball got some further bound to roll some further distance. When the ball stopped, it was 787 yards away from the hole. The official authority does not count it as the authentic distance as the distance did not come directly from the club hit.
On the other hand, Mike Austin hit the drive on the fifth hole of the 1974 National Seniors Open Championship. He smacked the ball with a wooden driver, and the ball flies a couple of moments in the sky to reach a record distance of 515 yards. At that moment, Mike Austin was 64 years of age. Can you believe that?
You may argue claiming Carl Cooper as the clean winner, but the distance he got did not come directly from the club. That is why it is still a subject of argument. We are letting the matter up to you to decide the winner. We are finishing this section by claiming Mike Austin as the winner.
Guinness record of world longest golf drive
The Guinness record owner of theworld’s longest golf drive is also Mike Austin for his outstanding drive of 515 yards on the 5th Hole of the 1974 National Seniors Open Championship.
As the measurement of Carl Cooper's 787-yard distance creates dispute, it went against the rules of the Guinness community. There can not be any dispute regarding a record to consider it as a world record. That is why Mike Austin owns the crown here, too.

He took the golf ball 498 yards in Round 2 of the 2002 Mercedes Champ.

It's okay to become a little egoistic when you have very little knowledge of the outside world. Amateur and high handicap golfers tend to boost of after taking the ball merely 30 yards. It's just the beginning of something interesting. As long as you are not getting 400 yards of distance, you can not claim to be the next Tiger Woods. There are many things to learn and explore. Be confident with your approach. You are going to make it one day.
The approach should be not to beat Tiger Woods or Mike Austin but to beat your own previous record. That is how you can think about getting the best result.
